Your car. Your data. Your choice.

Your car knows more about you than you think.

As cars continue to add in new technology to benefit drivers, they are becoming mobile computers.

With all of this data that is being generated, we need basic safeguards so that we can control who has access to our information, just the same as we do now with our smart phones and computers.

Right now, automakers can collect your personal information including your exact location, car speed, braking and acceleration information, radio usage, phone use, and even how many people are in the car.

That’s why we support Senate Bill 994 by Senator Bill Monning to give you a choice on who has access to your information. This is why consumer leaders like the Automobile Club of Southern California and Automobile Club of Northern California support SB 994 which will:

  • Ensure that you are informed and understand what information is being collected and what is transmitted to the automaker.
  • Ensure you have access to your car information and prohibits automakers from creating exclusive systems.
  • Ensure you have the right to control who can access your car information and designate other service providers to receive your information to provide needed and wanted services.
